Idaho Mining Association Education Project

The Idaho Mining Association in partnership with the National Energy Foundation have provided Idaho teachers with mineral and mining programs, training and materials for K-12 since 1996. The Mineral Resources and Mining Education Program strengthens teachers understanding regarding the essential role mineral resources, mining and the mineral industries play in their lives and the lives of their students. Teachers are trained in techniques and processes that will aid them as they teach these concepts to their students in fun and exiting ways.

The premier program for teachers is the National Energy Foundation program, OUT OF THE ROCK. This two to three day workshop focuses on earth science, economics, geography, geology, Idaho history and social studies. Teachers have hands on experience at a local mine operation; learn from experts in the field and make-n-take a sample rock and mineral kit. Participants receive a variety of materials which may include the 544 page activity guide, posters, videos and the Rock Music CD and songbook. Teachers pay only a $10 registration fee.

Idaho teachers interesting in attending a workshop or receiving materials to use in their classrooms (based on available funding), please contact the National Energy Foundation at 801-800-618-TEAM or email at info@nef1.org

Teachers who implement the Out of the Rock curriculum in their classrooms can earn Professional Development graduate credit. Access this information at www.nef1.org/programs.html
