Coeur d'Alene Mines CorporationSince 1928, Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation has grown from a small domestic silver mining company from North Idaho into an international silver and gold producer. Today, our corporate office is located in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where we employ over forty professionals with backgrounds in finance, engineering, computer science, geology and environmental science. Worldwide, Coeur d'Alene Mines employs over 900 people. Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation is North America's largest primary silver producer, while its gold production has grown at one of the fastest rates among major North American gold companies in this decade. Since 1986, Coeur has received 19 environmental awards for our leadership and commitment to environmental protection and public participation. We have the distrinction as the "environmental mining company". In Central Idaho, we operated and successfully reclaimed the Coeur Thunder Mountain Mine. This project clearly demonstrated the mining industry's ability to operate a project and return the land, as near as possible, back to its natural condition. Coeur received the prestigious Dupont/Conoco Environmental Leadership award for this project. This award is very unique because environmental group leaders selected Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation as the recipient. Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation's other North American projects are located in Idaho, Nevada, and Alaska. Our Rochester Mine has been operating since 1986 and is known as one of the largest primary silver mines in the world. In 1997, this operation produced 6,690,700 ounces of silver and 90,000 ounces of gold. International operations include projects in New Zealand, Australia and Chile. Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation also holds the patent for the process known as CYANISORB™. CYANISORB™ is a technology that recycles and reuses reagents commonly used in producing gold. This technology reduces the hazards associated with reagent use including transportation and storage issues, and further reduces exposures to wildlife and waterfowl. This technology is currently being used successfully in Idaho at the Delamar Silver Mine.
